CCJAPIII,
in partnership with the General Department of Prison, hosted a workshop for all
NGOs and development partners who are providing services to the women and
juvenile prisoners of Correctional Centre 2 (CC2). There were 2 aims of the
workshop. One aim was to assist in improving coordination and cooperation
between NGOs. The second aim was to provide an opportunity for HE Heng Hak,
General Director of General Department of Prison to inform the NGOs of his future
plans for rehabilitation and reintegration programs in prison and to seek the
support of the NGOs in achieving this.
There are 3
priority groups at CC2. These are women prisoners, juvenile prisoners and
children who are living in prison with their mothers. The purpose of this
workshop was to ask what is currently being done for these 3 groups, identify
what else needs to happen and look at how to make those changes.
Representatives
from 12 different agencies attended. This workshop was very successful as
agencies could raise issues of concern directly with each other and with the
senior representatives of CC2 and, as a result, a number of solutions were able
to be implemented immediately. It also provided a good opportunity for learning
about what other agencies were doing at CC2.
All agency
representatives and the senior prison staff thought that this type of forum was
very useful and a resolution was made to continue with these meetings each 3
months.
