The first meeting of the new General
Department of Prisons Gender Working Group was held on 29 August 2008 at CC2
prison. The group is comprised of representatives from both head office and
prisons and is made up of both male and female staff. Ms Som SouKea, Deputy
Director of the Department of Means is the chair of the working group.
Ms Nuon
Sokchea, CCJAP project officer - Gender Mainstreaming Strategy
assisted in the planning and preparation of this meeting. This first meeting allowed
members to get to know each other and to discuss the CCJAP Gender Mainstreaming
Strategy. The members also began to identify what some of their individual and
group training needs may be to better understand the concepts of gender and
gender mainstreaming and how this relates to the work they do in the General
Department of Prisons.
