On 16 June 2008 the General Department of Prisons held a workshop on Prison Reform Review for the first six months of 2008 and Introduction of Prison Procedure on Prison Industry and Farming. The workshop aimed to provide opportunity for participants
to engage in assessment of the first 6 months of implementation of the prison reform
strategy, to raise challenges faced by each prison, to establish directions for
the future and to introduce the Prison Industry and Farming Procedure.
Representatives of organisations, National and International,
all Prison Chiefs and senior staff from General Department of Prisons attended.
Participants expressed a strong level of satisfaction on the
purpose of the workshop and for the way it was organised. They further
suggested that they would like to see national workshops of this nature for
sharing knowledge and experience continued, that it would be useful to have
representatives from courts attend to talk on outstanding issues and to
encourage more NGOs to participate in workshop to increase support for the
General Department of Prisons and the prison reform strategy.
