Donations for Myanmar Cyclone Nargis

On the evening of May 2, a tropical cyclone slammed into the coast of Myanmar with 180Kph winds, leaving many residents homeless. The death toll from the cyclone rose above 22,000, with another 41,000 people still missing. Hundreds of thousands of people are homeless and without clean water or food. Burmese state radio reported that 22,464 people had been confirmed dead.

On 7 May 2008, CCJAP III started an appeal for funds from its project team to assist the victims of Cyclone Nargis in Burma. The donation totaled US$1,225 were handed to Pact Cambodia. Pact Cambodia has been considered as one of the most effective channels to get the donations delivered directly to the victims.

According to Pact's appeal for Burma "Pact has over 1,400 staff working in more than 4,000 villages throughout Burma. Four hundred of these staff work in seven of the townships (and 805 of the villages) devastated by the cyclone. In coordination with other international organizations, Pact has an established network that is at the center of the response to the destruction. Pact estimates it can quickly mobilize to reach 75,000 households with food aid, 50,000 with oral rehydration solution and 20,000 with plastic water containers."
